Air passenger held, gold jewellery seized

CHENNAI: Officials of the Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit at the Anna international terminal arrested a passenger for not declaring gold jewellery on Tuesday.
C. Rajan, Commissioner of Customs (Airport), said Vellaisamy Thirugnanam, 42, of Paramakudi, arrived from Kuala Lumpur.
On suspicion, the authorities checked his baggage and found 1.2 kg of gold jewellery in it.
Packed in pouches
Mr Rajan said the jewellery was packed in plastic pouches and covered with carbon papers and wrapped with cellophane tape.
The packets were kept among personal belongings.
The value of the seized jewellery is Rs 12.5 lakh.
Further investigation is on.
