Patty Schnyder. BANGALORE: World No. 14, Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, has confirmed her participation in the $600,000 WTA Bangalore Open which gets underway here from March 3. Schnyder is the second top 20 player, after Serena Williams, to officially confirm her entry. The 29-year-old Schnyder, who has been on the WTA tour since the mid-1990s and has 10 Tour singles titles, has reached four Grand Slam quarterfinals and one semifinal. She also has four WTA doubles titles and is coached by husband Rainer Hofmann. ThrilledAnnouncing her participation, Schnyder in a press statement said: “It is great to be part of India’s first Tier II tennis extravaganza at Bangalore. This is my first visit to India and I am as much thrilled as anyone would be to visit this great nation. I look forward to playing great tennis at Bangalore in front of passionate lovers of the sport.” “We are privileged to have Patty Schnyder playing the Bangalore Open. I am sure she will enthral the spectators with her graceful tennis and charm,” said Sunder Raju, Tournament Director and Hon. Secretary of KSLTA.
