Ebenezer, Abirami win

CHENNAI: Jerome Jorge Ebenezer and R. Abirami clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the Victory Educational Trust 21st Tamil Nadu State U- 9 chess championship for Dolphin Trophies here.

The top two players from each category will represent Tamil Nadu in the forthcoming U-9 Nationals, to be organised by the All India Chess Federation.

Final Standings:

Boys: 1. Jerome Jorge Ebenezer (Che) 9.5/ 11; 2. M. Karthikeyan (Tvlr) 9.5; 3. M. Jayesh (Che) 8.5.

Girls: 1. R. Abirami (Tri) 10/11; 2. R. Manjula (Che) 8.5; 3. P. Varshini (Erd) 8.

Match drawn

State Bank of India and Nethaji were involved in a 1-1 draw in the Chennai Football Association senior division league here on Tuesday. K.G. Joseph scored first for SBI while Selvendran equalised for Nethaji.

Earlier, in a first division contest, Madras Eagles defeated HVF 3-0. K. Suresh, J. Dinakar and R. Mahendran found the net for Eagles.

On Monday, the match between AG’s and Chennai Customs ended in a goalless draw.

Ashwin scalps five

M. Ashwin’s five for 11 enabled Santhome ‘A’ beat Government HSS by 157 runs in the TNCA-Boost city schools under-17 cricket tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy here on Tuesday.

The scores: Santhome ‘A’ 229 for nine in 46 overs (M. Kamalesh 44, S.S. Pon Xavier 42, Parameswaran three for 34) bt Govt. HSS 72 in 30 overs (M. Ashwin five for 11).

HPL Global defeated Sri Hari Enterprises 3-0 in a third division men’s contest of the Tribology-CTTF inter-institution table tennis league held here.
