Bangalore: Here is an introduction to “Gandhigiri” for children. This time it comes without the trappings of Bollywood, in the form of a slim volume brought out by Pratham Books to mark the 60th anniversary of Gandhiji’s death. Called “A man called Bapu” (Rs. 25), it is an account of important events in Gandhiji’s life told in a simple language and targeted at children aged between 11 and 14. As author Subhadra Sen Gupta puts it, it narrates the story of the man every child knows because “we have his pictures on our stamps and rupee notes and we get a holiday on his birthday.” The book is illustrated by Neeta Gangopadhya. Pratham Books is bringing out this book in not only English but in nine other Indian languages, including Kannada. The last few pages of the book have brief notes on people who made the Gandhian methods popular. The book will be released by Governor Rameshwar Thakur on January 31.
