“Lift Gaza siege”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To protest against “inhuman and illegal siege” of the Gaza strip by Israeli occupation forces and to demand immediate lifting of the siege, a sit-in dharna was organised by Joint Committee of Muslim Organisations at Jantar Mantar here on Tuesday.

Dr. Tasleem Rahmani of the Joint Committee of Muslim Organisations said: “The idea behind organising this dharna was to express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people living in the Gaza strip.”

“We also want to condemn the shift in foreign policy of the Indian Government. India has been extending support to Palestine all along, but suddenly it has started opposing it. Our Government must abide by our traditional foreign policy of non-alignment,” he added.

The organisers also condemned the launch of a spy satellite by the Israeli Government at this juncture and pressed for the United Nations intervention to take active steps to end the siege and implement all resolutions passed by the UN. The organisers also submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Prime Minister’s Office and the External Affairs Minister’s Office.
