“Speed up laying of water, sewer lines”

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said the Delhi Jal Board would speed up the laying of water and sewer lines in all unauthorised colonies to change their face ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Speaking at a function at Avantika, where she laid the foundation stone for a 20-million-litre capacity underground reservoir and booster pumping station, the Chief Minister said the Jal Board would ensure equitable drinking water distribution and adequate availability of water before 2010. She announced that the DJB would construct 53 underground reservoirs by then to improve the water supply. Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan declared that while work on four slip roads for the Mukarba Chowk flyover would begin in February, construction of the Signature Bridge would start in April.
