FOR HEALTHY LIVING: Yana Gupta during the launch of an Advanced Human Performance Studio in New Delhi. NEW DELHI: That the tall and sleek model-actor Yana Gupta is a fitness freak was re-affirmed all over again when she came calling here this Tuesday to unveil a power workout centre. Sharing some of her secrets to remain fit and healthy, Yana said obesity can be reduced to simple mathematics. “It is a calories-in-calories-out calculation. Anything you eat beyond your immediate need for energy is converted into fat. The amount of energy required by each individual can be diverse. Metabolism must be measured directly. Your metabolic rate holds the key to managing your body,” adds Yana, who launched an Advanced Human Performance Studio at Amartrra Spa here. “Once you know precisely what your body needs, it unlocks your potential and ensures you achieve those targets. Since I have such a hectic schedule, I don’t get time to head for the gym, so I work on a fitness machine that unlocks the secrets of the body to allow for fast, effective and incredible results,” says the pretty woman who has modelled for Calvin Klein and Victoria’s Secret. As for her professional career, Yana revealed that she started sashaying down the ramp at the age of 16. “I have modelled in European countries. When I first came to India I couldn’t resist the temptation of traditional food, particularly sweets, and put on a lot of weight. Those days I had little knowledge about fitness, so I read a number of books on how to remain in top shape. I believe in eating healthy food, particularly fruits. For the past 10 years I have been into fitness and nutrition. I am now writing a book on fitness that I plan to release this year.” Stating that in the highly competitive film industry actors have to work hard on their bodies, Yana says it is important to look good on the big screen and also off-screen. “Thanks to Bollywood films, a number of people have now started joining gyms. And I think superstar Salman Khan with his muscular body has become a role model for many youngsters!” adds the actor, who has become synonymous with her dance number “Babuji zara dheere chalo…..” in the Bollywood film “Dum”. Besides sashaying down the ramp, Yana has campaigned for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that promotes public awareness about the need to put a stop to cruelty inflicted on animals and birds by humans. “I have never been PETA’s brand ambassador but only modelled for them. For quite some time I was only taking a vegan diet that excludes milk products and meat, ” she says. Yana right now is excited about her upcoming music album in which she will write, compose the music and sing the songs. All the songs will be in English. “The music album is being made in U.K.”
