Protest: Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene holding a protest rally in Chitradurga on Wednesday. Chitradurga: Irked by rampant illegal mining in the district, several members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and the Hasiru Sene held a protest rally here on Wednesday, demanding that the Government take action to prevent indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources in the district. In a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas, the members mentioned several ways to help curb illegal mining. They urged the Government to remove all unlicensed stockyards in the district, cancel the issue of new licences and revocation of licences given to mine owners, who were exploiting forest and agricultural lands. They demanded that the Government prohibit transportation of ore at night and initiate action against those involved in such activities. Computerise recordsThey also urged computerisation of records detailing amount of ore transported through check-posts and weighbridges. They also demanded that the Government stop exporting ore and use the same for domestic development.
