Staff Reporter

Involvement of the public, NGOs sought

Law reforms panel to examine all laws

Kochi: The Law Reforms Commission would like to make recommendations for making the law people-friendly, said V.R. Krishna Iyer, chairman of the commission, at a meeting held here on Tuesday.

The meeting, attended by consultants and representatives of non-governmental organisations interested in participating in the process of preparing a comprehensive report on law reforms, suggested that an active involvement by the public, NGOs and lawyers was important in arriving at recommendations that would bring about a substantial report on reforms of laws and the justice delivery system.

The next meeting of the consultants and those interested in assisting the commission will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Satgamaya Annexe, C.L. Anand Lane, M.G. Road, Ernakulam.

Second meeting

The second meeting of the commission will be held on Wednesday.

Mr. Iyer, emphasising the need to simplify the law, said that this was to ensure enforcement of law and expeditious judicial decision.

The commission would examine all the laws including the Civil Procedure Code, Criminal Procedure Code, Town Planning, Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation, Land Assessment, Environment, Human Rights, Police Act, Victimology and Registration Act.
