Residents block road

VILLUPURAM: Residents of Saram blocked traffic on the Chennai-Tindivanam highway on Wednesday, demanding basic amenities.

The protestors said that they suffered owing to frequent power cuts.

The panchayat did not provide them drinking water for the past one week as the electric motor used for pumping water to the overhead tank was allegedly under repairs. The roads were also in a pathetic condition following the rain, they added.

Police personnel, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar, promised the protestors to take up the matter with the authorities concerned. When the people refuse to leave the spot, the police used mild force to disperse them.
