THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Information Kerala Mission (IKM) has released the digitised administrative maps of local self-government institutions (LSGIs) here on Wednesday. The maps which specify the administrative limits of LSGIs is considered as a basic document for all developmental activities. It is expected to give a fillip to the development projects charted out by the LSGIs under the Eleventh Plan. The maps, which were released by Planning Board member C.P. Narayanan at a function here, was prepared on the basis of the cadastral maps of the Survey and Land Records Department. Work on preparing the maps was initiated by the coordination committee on decentralised development on August 28, 2002. Other than the ownership and extent of land owned by the government, individuals and institutions, the cadastral maps have details of roads, railway lines and water-bodies. The maps in Malabar region were prepared in 1923, Kochi in 1899 and the erstwhile State of Travancore in 1914.
