Krishna wins men’s team championship

VIJAYAWADA: Krishna won the men’s team championship in the Andhra State senior inter-district carrom championship, blanking Prakasam 3-0 at Hydri Club in Ongole on Wednesday.

The results:

Narrow win for RVRJC

Guntur’s RVR Junior College scored a four-run victory over Machilipatnam’s Noble College in the AP college teachers’ cricket tournament for the Chandu Silver Cup at Guntur on Wednesday.

The scores:

RVRJC (Guntur) 128 for six on 20 overs (Chandrasekhar 49) bt Noble College (Machilipatnam) 124 for six in 20 overs (John 45, Satyanarayana Reddy four for 18).

JKC (Guntur) 145 for seven 20 overs (M. Sivarama Krishna 77) bt SRKREC (Bhimavaram) 120 in 20 overs (Venkattappaiah three for 12).

ALC (Vijayawada) 97 in 19.3 overs (Manipal four for 14, Ananthaiah four for 17) lost to KVR (Nandigama) 99 for seven in 16 overs (Manipal 47, Chinnappa four for nine).

AG & SGC (Vuyyuru) 114 for nine 20 overs lost to CRR (Eluru) 118 for eight in 19.4 overs (R. Rao three for 10).

Cricket camp begins

A two-week pace and spin bowling coaching camp, for the present Andhra Ranji and junior players, commenced at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Former England pace bowler Mike Hendricks, at present coach of Derbyshire, and former Indian Test all-rounder and who now Ireland coach, M.V. Narasimha Rao, are conducting the camp.

The two have been engaged by the ACA for this special camp, said ACA general secretary V. Chamundeswarinath. Forty players are attending the camp.

ACA coaches J. Krishna Rao, Vincent Vinay Kumar and A.P. Naidu are assisting the two coaches while former Andhra captain M.N. Ravikumar and M. Sharat are in-charge of the senior and juniors respectively.

The ACA vice-president, P.R. Narayanaswami, said that it was for the first time that the ACA had roped in foreign coaches.

The director of the camp is former Andhra Ranji vice-captain G.J.R. Raju.
