Adelaide: Left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh, nursing a knee injury, will miss Friday’s Twenty20 international in Melbourne but is expected to be fit for the second ODI of the tri-series.

Yuvraj, who was injured while playing football in a training session, visited a hospital in Melbourne for a check-up and received encouraging news.

Indian team media manager Dr. M.V. Sridhar told The Hindu on Wednesday, “Yuvraj met the specialist and, after examination, it was confirmed that he had made a remarkable progress. He should be fit to play for the team from the second ODI.”

India takes on Sri Lanka in Brisbane on February 5 in its second match of the tri-series.

Dr. Sridhar added paceman Munaf Patel, who has replaced an injured Rudra Pratap Singh in the ODI squad, would join the team ahead of India’s opener against Australia at the Gabba on February 3. Meanwhile, all the Test match specialists, including captain Anil Kumble, have left for home.

Dr. Sridhar said the Indian ODI team, which landed in Melbourne on Wednesday, was in good spirits. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said he was happy at the charge of racist abuse against him being dropped.

Meanwhile, Australian batsman David Hussey, brother of the famous Michael, has been named in the squad for the one-off Twenty20 game against India. Michael Clarke has been named the vice-captain in the side to be led by Ricky Ponting.

Australian squad for the one-off Twenty20 game in Melbourne: Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist (wk), Ricky Ponting (capt.), Brad Hodge, Andrew Symonds, Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Adam Voges, James Hopes, Brett Lee, Ashley Noffke, Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus.
