Amol Palekar BHUBANEWAR: Acclaimed actor and filmmaker Amol Palekar has stressed on greater participation of the younger generation in the annual festivals of films on art and artists being hosted by the Jatin Das Centre of Art (JDCA) in the City for the past two years. Mr. Palekar, who shot his internationally acclaimed film ‘Dairaa’ in the State, is in the city for the past three days for the JDCA organised second national festival of films on art and artists. He addressed the closing ceremony of the event at IDCOL auditorium on Wednesday. Addressing the occasion, eminent filmmaker Gautam Ghose observed that it would take a few more years to attract greater participation of audience for such specialised film festivals in Bhubaneswar. There is the need for continuity of such events, he pointed out. JDCA founder-chairman and noted painter Jatin Das, the brain behind the festival, reiterated that JDCA was committed in creating an artist-friendly environment in the capital city with its continued art activities. Nirad Mohapatra, the celebrated Oriya filmmaker from Orissa, suggested audience involvement in the screening schedule for the future years. There should be discussion on the films being screened, he opined. Well-known filmmaker Arun Khopkar also spoke. Artist-in-exile M.F. Hussain’s Madhuri Dixit starrer much-hyped film ‘Gaja Gamini’ was screened as the closing film of the three-day festival that featured nearly 40 films and 35 eminent film personalities from all over the country.
