NEW DELHI: To make the United Kingdom an attractive destination for students from India, a two-day exhibition on education opens at the British Council here this Saturday. The “Education U.K. Exhibition” will see the participation of representatives from more than 68 educational institutions in the U.K. It will cater to a range of subject areas mainly at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The exhibition will later travel to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore before concluding at Pune. SeminarsAt the exhibition in the Capital, students will get a chance to interact with representatives at their stalls and also attend seminars on various topics that will help them comprehend the admission procedure and requirements for studying in the U.K. Options will also be available to students who are considering going to the U.K. to pursue a diploma-level course. Information about scholarships for study along with student visa process will also be available. There will also be career-based seminars on diverse topics like Business and Management, Information Technology and Engineering, Law and Art and Design. Information about how to apply for a student visa will also be available at the exhibition. 27,000 Indian studentsMore than 27,000 Indian students are currently studying in the U.K. and this number is growing increasingly at the rate of over 10 per cent each year. Indian students are attracted mainly to the one-year Master’s programme and three-year undergraduate course in the United Kingdom . Shorter duration of courses compared with other countries means saving a lot of time and money. Special schemesStudents can also take advantage of schemes such as the Fresh Talent and the International Graduates Scheme that allow them to work after they have finished their study in the UK. International students also get discounts for travel, entertainment and health care which is either free or subsidised.
