Planned hard work of students, key to success

Staff Reporter

Says Collector in a confidence-building meet

KULITHALAI: Great achievers had a vision to realise and a mission to accomplish. They carved a niche for themselves by planned hard work and perseverance that resulted in progress. Students, especially those who are about to take the school final examinations and subsequent competitive examinations, should emulate those achievers, Karur Collector T.N. Venkatesh said here on Thursday.

Speaking at the “Neengalum Saadhikkalam” confidence-building programme for students of Standard X and Plus-Two of Kulithalai region conducted here, Mr. Venkatesh urged them to realise that they were at an important juncture in their career and their performance could shape their future life and progress. For that, preparing well for the examinations were of utmost importance.

Urging them to think beyond mere reading, the Collector said that planned hard work fetched better results and the students would do well to inculcate that habit.

Another important feature was that the students should have awareness about the various options open to them and programmes such as those would help them in taking appropriate decisions, he pointed out.

Stating that it was the intention of the Department of School Education and the district administration to conduct confidence building and career shaping programmes for all school students, Mr. Venkatesh said that the fruits of the cutting edge ideas on succeeding in exams should reach all students irrespective of the economic status. While similar exercises were available for the affluent students in the cities, rural areas and students coming from a more humble background should not be left behind and that was the aim of “Neengalum Saadhikkalam” programmes, he emphasised.

Officials from the Department of School Education and Sarva Siskha Abhiyan participated in the programme attended by several hundred students from over a dozen schools in and around Kulithalai.

Martyrs’ Day

On the occasion of the Martyrs’ Day, the students observed a minute’s silence in memory of the freedom fighters. They also took a pledge against untouchability stating that it was a scourge to be eradicated. The Collector read out a pledge and the students and the teachers attending the programme took the oath.
