PLAYING IT SAFE: Chicken, suspected to have been infected by bird flu, being burnt at Rourkela station on Wednesday. Rourkela: As many as 177 birds being brought from Howrah in a train were seized and three women arrested in this connection at the railway station here on Wednesday, police said. The arrest and seizure was made as administration and police swung into action when the chicken unloaded from the 8005 Howrah-Koraput, Samaleswari Express in the early hours at Rourkela station, they said. Arrested identifiedThose arrested were identified as Hashina Khatun, Razia Begum and Radha Nayak of Keranitolla village in Midnapore district. The chicken were immediately burnt to death, they said. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in the border district of Sundergarh to prevent illegal import of poultry consignment. Earlier, police and road transport authorities here seized a truck-load of chicken transported from Chhatisgarh on Sunday at Vedvyas Chowk when the truck sneaked into the State through the Taporla check gate. The administration had kept it under observation, the sources said. Border sealedOrissa border has been sealed and strict watch was being kept at 35 entry points into the district, by posting special officials, sources said. PTI
