Short-term courses in retail, environment management

Staff Reporter

Convocation will be held on February 2

KANCHEEPURAM: The emerging trend of big industrial houses foraying into retail marketing seems to have influenced the Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya at Enathur near here to introduce a short-term course in retail management.

Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor B. Viswanathan said the institution was planning to introduce a new post-graduate diploma course in retail management.

The course would be designed in such a manner that the staff to be employed in big retail chain stores were trained in management and marketing aspects of retail business.

Candidates who have an undergraduate degree or cleared higher secondary school leaving examination could take this 14-month course to be introduced soon, Dr.Viswanathan added.

Apart from introducing the PG Diploma course in Retail Management, the deemed university is also contemplating to offer a PG Diploma course in Environmental Management

The Vice-Chancellor claimed that part-time B.E. and M.E. courses, launched by the deemed university in the recent past, had elicited a good response from diploma-holders working in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and private companies in this region.

New courses

Three new programmes — M.Phil in Sanskrit, B.Ed. and M.E. (Power System) — introduced during last academic year have also elicited good response, he added.

Stating that the 11th convocation would be held on February 2 at the university premises, Mr. Viswanathan said a total of 430 students would be receiving their degrees.
