Two-wheelers recovered
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: The police arrested two juvenile offenders in Kilpauk on charges of stealing two-wheelers and recovered seven vehicles on Wednesday.
Following complaints from motorists in Aynavaram, Kilpauk and Purasawalkam that vehicles parked in public places such as parks and shopping malls went missing, Commissioner of Police G. Nanchil Kumaran directed the police to conduct checks at random spots and also look out for suspects who moved on two-wheelers at odd hours. When a team of officers on night patrol duty intercepted vehicles on Tuesday, they spotted a young person. When police interrogated him discreetly, he confessed to having stolen the two-wheeler. He allegedly indulged in the crime along with his friend, also a juvenile, it came to light. The two boys are in classes VIII and IX in a local school.
The boys admitted to having committed such a crime for the last three to four months and had stolen as many as 20 two-wheelers. However, in some cases within a few hours when the owners traced their vehicles, they withdrew the complaint after the boys abandoned it and fled the scene, an officer said.
