Young graduates asked to join army

UDUMALPET: Col. JH. Samuel, Principal of Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, has asked young graduates to join Indian Army to serve the nation.
Speaking at the Republic Day function organised by the Udumalpet Government Arts College Alumni Trust here, Col. Samuel said that army officers were enjoying monetary benefits on a par with IAS, IPS officers and first grade gazetted officers.
D. Karunakaran, principal of the college, presided over the function. Alumni member Mohamed Ali Jafer welcomed the gathering.
Awards
The Trust presented awards to students who secured university ranks during the 2006-07 academic year. D. Jayashree and V. Kanakaraj (who secured first and second ranks in B.A. Tamil respectively); P. Lakshmi and R. Ganga Devi (third rank holders in B.A. Tamil); M. Kanagamani (sixth rank in B.A. Tamil); K. Anitha (ninth rank in B.A. Tamil); and J. Nagaraj (third rank in B.Sc Statistics) were honoured at the function.
Tamil Department of Government Arts College bagged six of the first 10 ranks in Bharathiar University examinations.
In post-graduation, C. Amsaveni (fifth rank in M.A. Tamil), S. Sulochana (seventh rank in M.Sc. Physics) and M. Premalatha (eighth rank in M.Sc. Physics) received the awards and prizes.
Trust Advisory Board chairman Prof. V. Krishnan, Alumni Trust chairman S. Kannan, secretary R. Kandasamy, treasurer S. Joseph and executive members Suresh, Devendiran, Vaduganathan, Kandavadivel and Sikkander took part in the function.
