FIR: “Ram … Ram” were Mahatma’s last words

NEW DELHI: What exactly were the last words of the Father of the Nation when he fell to the assassin’s bullets at Birla House here 60 years ago?

According to an FIR registered at the Tuglaq Road Police Station shortly after the assassination, Gandhi had said “Ram...Ram.” Gandhiji is widely believed to have uttered ‘Hey Ram’ as Nathuram Godse pumped three bullets into him. The FIR, based on the statement given by one Nand Lal Mehta, states that the Mahatma uttered “Ram...Ram” as he collapsed. — PTI
