Six killed in five road accidents

BANGALORE: Six persons, including a woman, were killed in five road accidents reported from the city since Tuesday. The police said the owner of a goods vehicle and its driver were killed on the spot after a lorry hit them on Hebbal Ring Road on Tuesday night. The police gave their names as Chandrashekar (30) of Holenarasipura taluk, driver, and Ramesh (32) of Tarabanahalli on Hesarghatta Road.

Around 9.30 p.m., the lorry hit them while they were standing near their vehicle, which had broken down near Lumbini Garden, and were waiting for a mechanic.

Gayathri (29) was crushed to death after a lorry ran over her near Kadugodi railway gate in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits on Tuesday night. Around 9 p.m., Gayathri and her husband Ravindra were returning home in Kadugodi on a motorcycle. After the motorcycle overturned, Gayathri, who was riding pillion, fell on the road and came under the wheels of the lorry, the police said.

Venkata Rao (35) was killed after a multiutility vehicle rammed the motorcycle on which he was riding pillion. The accident occurred around 10 p.m. near Belandur bus stop on Sarjapur Road.

Venkata Rao, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, was a labour contractor and a resident of Bellandur. The Adugodi traffic police have registered a case and arrested the driver of the MUV, which was on hire to a call centre.

T.R. Prakash (32), a cable television operator, died of injuries he suffered in a road accident in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said that around 7.30 a.m. a lorry knocked down Prakash’s motorcycle on Ramamurthynagar Ring Road. Prakash, a native of Chitradurga, was a resident of Sahakaranagar here. Penchala Rao (23), a construction worker, was killed after a military truck hit his bicycle at the junction of Kallahalli Road and Jeevanhalli Road around 7.15 a.m. on Wednesday. The Fraser Town traffic police have arrested the truck driver. Rao, a native of Chittoor district, was a resident of Jeevanhalli, the police said.

Robbed

An armed gang robbed a man of a cellphone and Rs. 400 at knifepoint in Hennur police station limits on Tuesday. The police said around 10.15 p.m., four men waylaid Andrews, a screen printer, near the Forest Office on Nagawara Ring Road and robbed him of the phone estimated at Rs. 2,800 and the cash.
