BANGALORE: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh will visit Bangalore on February 3 to interact with party leaders. BJP leaders said that Mr. Singh would participate in a meeting of the election committee and also attend a lunch to be hosted for all the former legislators and MPs by the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. There is speculation in the party circles that Mr. Singh might make an effort to send a unity message ahead of elections to the Assembly. PadayatraMeanwhile, the BJP Raitha Morcha will take out two separate padayatras to Bangalore from Shivapura in Maddur taluk and Kolar on February 2 and 3 respectively to draw the attention of the government to the problems of farmers, especially that of sugarcane, vegetable and fruit growers. Raitha Morcha president Ishwarchandra Hosamani told a press conference here on Thursday that the padayatras would reach Bangalore on February 5 and a public meeting would be held on that day to highlight the farmers’ problems. After the public meeting, a delegation of the morcha office-bearers would submit a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, appealing to him to increase the sugarcane procurement price to Rs. 1,200 per tonne, procure all the standing crop of sugarcane and provide compensation of Rs. 25,000 per hectare to sugarcane crop that had dried up.
