HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has expressed concern over the statement of CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan on the formation of a front opposed to the Congress and the BJP claiming that such thought would be detrimental to the country’s interests. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, APCC spokesmen Paladugu Venkata Rao and N. Tulasi Reddy questioned how Mr. Bardhan wanted to float a third front with regional parties whose politics “always revolved around power”. “Do you want to harness the regional parties at a time when the country needs strong political will? Formation of a hotchpotch third front will be an insult to politics,” Mr. Venkata Rao said. Referring to the criticism on the slow pace of investigation into the murder case of Ayesha, a student in Vijayawada, he said the incident appeared to be handwork of professionals and hence, it was taking time for the investigating authorities to resolve the case. Terming the Telugu Desam Party’s criticism on the incident uncalled for, he exuded confidence that the Vijayawada police commissionwould shortly bring the culprits to book. Mr. Tulasi Reddy criticised the TDP for its comments on the law and order situation claiming that it was during the latter’s rule that major incidents like attack on Paritala Ravindra, killing of Minister Alimineti Madhav Reddy and the attempt on TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu occurred.
