Six arrested on murder charge

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: Police have arrested six persons for allegedly murdering a youth at Pettai, near here, on January 28.

Police said three special teams were formed after N. Madasamy (38) of Nedunkulam near Nanguneri was murdered by an armed gang at Pettai near here on last Monday. The team also recovered the weapons used for committing the crime.

During interrogation, they said Madasamy murdered his wife and accused Thangapandi’s sister, Vadivu, on November 3, 2004 as he suspected that she had extra-marital affair with Madasamy’s brother. However, he was acquitted in the case that enraged Vadivu’s brothers. In this backdrop, Madasamy was visiting a workshop at Pettai where his tractor was being overhauled. When Madasamy and some of his friends and relatives were returning home in small groups on last Monday, the armed gang hacked Madasamy to death.

Even as the police are taking steps to arrest the remaining members, P. Madasamy and P. Arumugam, both brothers of Thangapandi, surrendered before a court.
