Lifetime tax only for new maxi cabs: Minister

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The government has decided to allow quarterly payment of motor vehicle tax from owners of the old maxi cabs as sought by them.

Announcing this here on Thursday, Transport Minister K. Lakshminarayana told reporters that the payment of lifetime tax (towards MV tax) would be allowed only in case of new max cabs whose cost was less than Rs. 3.5 lakh.

Referring to the proposal by autorickshaw drivers to go on strike demanding a minimum fare of Rs. 15, he said it did not come to the notice of the government.
