ISLAMABAD: This was the second meeting of the Pakistan Ex-servicemen Society this month. At the first one on January 22, they asked President Pervez Musharraf to resign in the “supreme national interest.” This time, they demanded that he hand over the reins of power to deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary. Reading out the resolutions, Air Marshal Asghar Khan said Mr. Chaudhary must appoint a provisional government and an Election Commissioner, and demanded that it should be headed by Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas, who was also ousted in the November 2007 emergency. The ex-servicemen also resolved to back the struggle by lawyers and journalists. The group also passed a resolution demanding that nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan either be released from his house imprisonment or tried.
