Cowardly act, says Colombo

B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: At least eight civilians, including four in a cycle suicide blast by a suspected LTTE cadre in Jaffna town, died on Thursday as pitched battles continued along the Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in the north.

The Defence Ministry claimed that an LTTE suicide bomber exploded himself targeting civilians in Jaffna in the morning. Military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told media “this is a cowardly attempt by the terrorists to instil a fear psychosis among the Tamil civilians living in Jaffna Peninsula.”

The Ministry said LTTE transmissions, monitored by the security forces confirmed that many minors, school-goers and teachers were being sent to the LTTE defence line with sinister designs.
