Grammar training through EDUSAT
K. Manikandan
TAMBARAM: English teachers in upper primary sections [Classes VI to VIII] of schools in all districts recently underwent a 90-minute online training programme on grammar, as part of the State government’s efforts to improve spoken English among students going to government schools.
Resource persons gave instructions from Anna University, and it was broadcast simultaneously to all the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Block Resource Centres in Tamil Nadu through EDUSAT (Indian Space Research Organisation’s educational satellite).
In Kancheepuram district, 84 resource persons from all 14 blocks attended the programme held at SSA’s meeting hall inside St. Thomas Mount Block’s office premises in Chitlapakkam near Tambaram.
Block Resource Teacher Educators and SSA staff told The Hindu that the ‘EDUSAT programme on Teaching English Grammar for Upper Primary Classes’ was aimed at making grammar techniques easy to teachers.
The 84 resource persons, who attended the programme, would train in batches, all the teachers (other than those handling Tamil) of Kancheepuram district taking English and other subjects, the organisers said.
With the State government attaching a lot of importance to spoken English, such training programme using satellite technology was useful, the staff said.
