Plea for launch of rural pujaris welfare board
Staff Reporter
Request to declare February 20 as ‘pujari day’
TIRUCHI: The Tamil Nadu State Village Pujaris Association has urged the State Government to initiate action to ensure the take-off of the Tamil Nadu Village Pujaris Welfare Board for implementing the welfare measures in the cause of targeted beneficiaries.
A resolution adopted at its general council meeting held here on Wednesday said that although the Board had been constituted about a year ago, it was yet to see the light of the day. The resolution said that the Board should start functioning on the lines of the other welfare boards immediately.
Another resolution pleaded for sanctioning of the monthly pension of Rs.750 to more number of aged pujaris. Although it was announced that the pension would be given to 4,000 pujaris, only 2,000 had benefited so far under the pension scheme.
The meeting, through a resolution, pleaded for declaring February 20, the birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahasar, as the ‘pujari day.’ It also protested against the sale of cows donated to temples. Instead, the cows should be given to the pujaris.
The State joint secretary of the Association S. Gopalarathinam, the State organiser A. K. Soundararajan, the State vice president Manian and the International executive president of the Viswa Hindu Parishad S. Vedantham were among those who participated in the meeting.
