CRPF officer shot dead by constable

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Additional DIG Syed Sirajuddin Khan was shot dead, allegedly by constable T. Hanumantha Rao, in his office at Chandrayanagutta on Thursday.

Mr. Khan was working as staff officer to CRPF Inspector-General (Southern Sector) P. Mallanna Goud.

He was in his office on the CRPG Group Centre campus when the constable walked up to him and fired a round at him from his INSAS rifle around 6.15 p.m.

The critically injured officer was rushed to Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The 30-year-old constable, hailing from Kurnool and living with his family at the local CRPF quarters, was taken into custody and is being questioned.

Sources say the constable was angered at not being sanctioned leave to visit his village.

The Chandrayanagutta police have registered a case of murder.
