‘Ore Kadal,’ ‘Thaniye’ bag award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ore Kadal and Thaniye have been selected for the best film award for 2007 instituted by the Atlas Film Critics Association. Nivedyam, directed by Lohita Das, is the second best film.

R. Syamaprasad, who directed Ore Kadal, was adjudged the best director.

Mohanlal was selected the best male actor for his role in Paradesi, while Lakshmi Gopalaswamy bagged the best female actor award for her performance in Thaniye and Paradesi.

While the award for best film carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 for each producer, Vindhyan of Ore Kadal and K.C. Chacko of Thaniye, that for the best director carries a purse of Rs. 25,000. The best male and female actors get Rs. 25,000 each.

At a press conference here, Thekkinkad Joseph, president of the association, and Mannarakayam Baby, general secretary, said Adoor Gopalakrishnan, filmmaker, would be presented the Chalachitra Ratnam award for his contributions to the film world.

The other award winners are as follows: Nedumudi Venu, second best male actor (Thaniye); Parvathy, second best female actor (Flash); Sreenivasan, special award for acting (Arabikatha and Katha Parayumbol); Jayasree Sivadas and Gautham Babu, child actors (Oridathoru Puzhayundu); Sreenivasan, screenplay (Katha Parayumbol); Vijayan East Coast, lyricist (Novel); M. Jayachandran, music director (Nivedyam); Vijay Yesudas and Sweta Mohan, playback singers (Kolakuzhal… in Nivedyam); and Azhagappan, cinematography (Ore Kadal).

Arabikatha and Vinodayatra were adjudged the most popular films, while Bhama was selected for the best debut actor for her role in Nivedyam.

M. Mohanan (Katha Parayumbol) and Sreelal Devaraj (Subhadram) were selected the best debut directors.

The awards will be presented at a function here in the last week of March.
