Skating rink planned at Vonake Obavva stadium

Chitradurga: The district administration has prepared a Rs. 38-crore proposal for development works. It has urged the Government to include it in the coming State budget.

“The district administration is keen on people-centric aspects such as construction of an old age home, improving the district hospital, constructing a Bal Bhavan and developing the district stadium,” Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas, said here on Friday.

He said the district administration had sought Rs. 1.20 crore to upgrade the district hospital by installing modern equipment such as CT scan. It had sought Rs. 1.50 crore to set up a home for the aged. “We have written to the Government seeking permission to convert the old district jail into an old age home. The Government has given its formal approval,” he added.

The district administration proposed to construct a Bal Bhavan near the Vonake Obavva stadium.

A site for the purpose had been acquired. It had sought Rs. 29 crore to provide water to Challakere taluk from the Vani Vilas Sagar Dam for irrigation. It had been decided to upgrade the district library by setting up a training centre for those appearing for competitive examinations. For this, Rs. 50 lakh had been sought.

To computerise the 40-year-old district gazetteer, Rs. 5 lakh had been sought, the Deputy Commissioner said.

He said there was a plan to build a skating rink at a cost of Rs. 3.50 crore at the Vonake Obavva stadium.

To promote tourism in the district, Rs. 2 crore had been sought.

“We are hoping that the Government would include these special components in the budget for the development of the district,” he said.
