Youth cautioned against perils of Western culture

Correspondent

Intellectuals are reversing historical events for their convenience: litterateur

He says

Governments working without sense of duty

India’s spiritual concept in danger

SIRSI: Nowadays, the youth are going away from ancient heritage, tradition and culture and are being enticed towards the Western culture.

If no proper awareness was created on this now, a heavy price will have to be paid in the future, said litterateur Na. Su. Bharatanahalli.

He was speaking on historical heritage awareness programme at Bharatanahalli in Yellapur taluk near here on Wednesday.

The programme was jointly organised by the Heritage Club of MM Arts and Science College, Sirsi, sponsored by the State Government and Pragati Education Society, Bharatanahalli.

He regretted that in this electronic age traditional abstracts and culture were being distorted and the forefathers were being forgotten.

India’s spiritual concept, the main character of the country, which was well appreciated by other countries, was on the verge of extinction, he added.

Surprisingly, intellectuals were reversing historical events in their writings for their convenience, he said. Both the government and syllabus-prescribing committees were working without duty consciousness, he said. Earlier, heritage club secretary and head of the Department of History, T.S. Halemane, MM Arts and Science College, gave a call to conserve historical monuments, folk art and culture of the district and to protect moral values.

College principal S.I. Bhat called upon students to preserve and protect historical monuments and ancient remains in the district.

Pragati High School Head Master V.R. Bhat presided over the function.
