KANNUR: District Congress Committee (DCC) president P. Ramakrishnan has said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s ‘intolerance’ towards rival parties is the major cause of political unrest in the district. At a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Ramakrishnan said that the CPI(M) could not tolerate the activities of rival political workers in the district. Congress workers in the district, including students loyal to its students’ wing of the Congress, were victims of the CPI(M)-sponsored violence. He said that main cause of the CPI(M) workers’ attacks on rival party workers was the party’s resentment over CPI(M) workers joining Sangh Parivar organisations. Citing attacks on several shops of minority communities by suspected CPI(M) workers in different parts of the district, including Taliparamba, Mr. Ramakrishnan said that the CPI(M) in the district was no different from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat.
