Cold wave continues; one more dead in Uttar Pradesh

Pahalgam remains coldest in Valley at minus 15.4 degrees Celsius


Amritsar remained coldest in the plains of Punjab and Haryana with minus one degree Celsius

Air link between Kashmir and Kargil resumed after being suspended for about 15 days


Chandigarh/New Delhi: The ongoing cold conditions in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh continued on Friday with the minimum temperatures remaining between minus two to minus six degrees Celsius below normal in the region.

Amritsar remained the coldest in the plains of Punjab and Haryana with a low of minus one degree Celsius, which was six degrees below normal, the Met department said here.

Among the other places in the region, Narnaul reeled under a low of 1.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal, Ambala settled at a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.

While the minimum temperature at Ludhiana was 2.1 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal, Karnal recorded a low of 2.4 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.

Chandigarh shivered at a low of 3.4 degrees Celsius which was four degrees below normal.

While Patiala registered a low of 3.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal, Hisar settled at a low of 5.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.

A man died of extreme cold in Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand District taking the toll this winter to 68 in the State where the minimum was recorded at zero degrees at Sarsawan in Saharanpur.

The temperature dipped further in Pahalgam to minus 15.4 degrees Celsius making it the coldest place in the valley while Srinagar experienced cold night where the minimum slid to minus 6.4 degrees.

Despite frosty conditions in the valley, the air link between Kashmir and Kargil was resumed after being suspended for about 15 days.

Cold wave continued unabated in Rajasthan where Churu was the coldest at 0.4 degrees Celsius.

The Met department has also predicted sunny days during the next 24 hours and after that rains or thundershowers at a few places in Punjab and isolated places in Haryana with marked improvement in the night temperature. — PTI
