DMDK member deplores lack of drinking water

Schemes influenced by outsiders: AIADMK

PUDUKOTTAI: The monthly meeting of the municipal council held here on Thursday witnessed noisy scenes, as councillors of different political parties voiced their demands.

Council chairman U. Ramathilagam, who presided over the meeting, assured the members that the municipality would initiate immediate action to fulfil their demands.

It all began when Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam member S. Kannan came to the meeting with plastic vessels, saying there was no drinking water supply for the last several months to a section of residents at Bose Nagar in his ward. He sought immediate action for supply of water through lorries. He squatted on the floor of the council in support of his demand.

Congress councillor M. Mohan alleged that decisions on various schemes and works implemented by the municipality were influenced by outsiders. He too squatted on the floor for some time, demanding provision of civic facilities in his ward.

Communist Party of India councillor Pazhaniappan staged a walkout in protest against poor attention given to his ward for the last two years.

The councillors pleaded with the chairman to take action against the pig menace in the town.

Kumar (AIADMK), Karnan (Independent) and Ibrahim Babu (Congress) complained about the poor amenities in their wards.

The chairman said several posts were lying vacant in the municipality, hindering the execution of welfare schemes. The municipality had sent a proposal to the State government to fill up the vacancies.
