AIADMK members stage walkout
Staff Reporter
ARANTHANGI: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam councillors staged a walkout from the municipal council meeting here on Thursday in protest against the erasing of the ‘two leaf’ symbol on the statue of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran in the town.
Chairman P. Mariappan, who presided over the meeting, said discussion on the issue would be taken up during question hour.
Insisting that the issue be taken up immediately, the AIADMK councillors criticised the municipality’s action.
The members staged a walkout demanding the immediate restoration of the symbol.
When BJP member Muralidharan wanted to know the reason for drilling a borewell at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School playground, Mr. Mariappan said officials had selected the site as a potential source of potable water to augment the supply.
Issue of receipts
AIADMK councillor Murugesan wanted expeditious issue of receipts to taxpayers. There was a prolonged delay in getting the receipts, he said.
The Chairman assured him that he would direct the municipal staff to issue the receipts immediately..
