Call for coordinated approach in anti-naxal operations Naveen Patnaik to attend the valedictory session CUTTACK: Senior police officers of the State on Friday held brainstorming deliberations on law and order and the present crime situation in the State. They also discussed the problem of Left wing extremisms. Eighty-two senior police officers are attending the 53rd two-day senior police officers’ conference. Inaugurating the conference, DGP Gopal Chandra Nanda laid emphasis on firm handling of the anti-social and mafia elements and coordinated approach in anti-naxalite operations. Urging the senior police officers to be more people-friendly, the DGP hoped that the Press, both Print and electronic media, would highlight the achievements of the police. The conference also discussed an important module of Media and PR management in which two senior personnel from Press were invited to participate. Briefing the newsmen, conference convener IG Satyajit Mohanty said the conference would discuss the police modernisation and other aspects of the policing in the State, including the newly-introduced police commissioner system on Saturday. Holistic approachChief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to attend the valedictory session. Mr. Mohanty said this year’s conference was designed in a fashion to allow the field officers to openly share their experiences and problems so as to take a holistic approach to solve them. On law and order situation in the State, the senior police officers discussed the challenges they were going to face in the coming days over the displacements that would take place due to industrialisation. On communal tension, the officers felt that Kandhamal-like situation cannot be ruled out in other parts of the State. Similarly on crime situation, the police officers discussed vividly about the recent spurt in bank dacoits and looting during transaction. They also stressed on speedy trial of criminal cases and mobile track detection and gangster activities taking place in the State. The Cuttack DCP and Kendrapada district SP presented papers on the tender-mafia activities in the State. Later briefing newsmen, DGP Nanda said the naxal problem in the State is under control. The police were playing dominant role in naxal-afflicted districts. “In Southern districts we are facing a little trouble as the area is very inaccessible,” Mr Nanda said.
