29 persons selected for Media Academy award

Bangalore: The Karnataka Media Academy has selected 29 presspersons, including octogenarian art critic S. N. Chandrashekhar, the former editors of Taranga and Sudha, Kannada weeklies, Santoshkumar Gulvadi and Nagesh Hegde respectively and the editor of weekly tabloid Hai Bangalore Ravi Belagere for its 2007 annual awards.

Announcing the awards, academy Chairman V.N. Subba Rao told presspersons here on Friday that though there were many deserving senior presspersons, the academy could confer the awards only on 29 persons in its silver jubilee year in compliance with its policy.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, a memento, citation and shawl, Mr. Rao said.

The award winners are: Hanumanthappa Patil, reporter, The Times of India,Bidar; Manohar Prasad, chief of bureau Udayavani, Mangalore; H.B. Manjunath, freelance cartoonist; C.G. Manjula, editor, Sudha, Bangalore; Gopala Hegde, news editor, Prajavani Hubli edition; Ilekan Srikanta, reporter, ETV Kannada, Mandya; Madana Gowda, news editor, Amoghavaarthe channel, Bangalore; Girija Shankar, Editor, Janamitra, Chikmagalur; Vasudevachar Hulagi, retired reporter, The New Indian Express, Koppal; Gopal Naik, reporter, Samyukta Karnataka, Bijapur; Mallikarjuna Heggalige, reporter, Deccan Herald, Bagalkot; Ramjan Darga, chief of bureau, Prajavani, Gulbarga; Srinivasa Sirnoorkar, chief reporter, Deccan Herald, Gulbarga; Kalyana Rao Muchalmbi, editor, Hasiru Kranthi, Belgaum; U.M. Poovaiah, editor, Brahmagiri weekly, Madikeri; Arun, chief of bureau, The New Indian Express, Bangalore; Saggere Ramaswamy, chief of Karnataka Photo News, Bangalore; M.G. Prabhakar, editor, Honnudi, Kolar; Thippeswamy, freelance news photographer, Mysore; Rajiva Kiduyur, editor, Navodaya daily, Gadag; Chakravarthy Swamy, editor, Sadbodha Chandrike, Haveri; M. Siddaraju, manager; PTI, Bangalore; N. Krishnappa, senior journalist, Devanahalli, and Abburu Rajashekhara, chief of bureau, Prajavani, Davangere.

The academy has conferred a special award on Delhi-based columnist Girish Nikkam in recognition of his contribution to the State journalism in the past 25 years.
