Work on at eight major hospital buildings “Hospitals directed to ensure work at a steady pace” NEW DELHI: The State Health Department has issued a revised list of deadlines for eight major hospital building projects now under way and pending in the Capital. The move is aimed at improving health care facilities in the city in the hope that the additions would take the load off the over-stretched health care infrastructure at present. In an effort to keep up with the demand, the Department has provided more time to hospitals including the Institute of Liver and Billiary Sciences (Vasant Kunj), Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (Shahdara), Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital, G. B. Pant Hospital, Maternity and Child Hospital (Nasirpur), Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (Janakpuri) and Delhi Ayurvedic Charak Sansatha (Khera Daburq) where construction or hospital improvement work is going on. “We are not happy with the work that is being done by the Public Works Department and are considering looking at another agency to carry out the work in various hospitals or at least for our new projects. We have set new deadlines for the pending projects in various hospitals to ensure that work is not hampered in any manner. All the hospitals have been directed to ensure that work goes on at a steady pace so that we are able to provide better quality care to our patients,” said State Health Minister Yoganand Shastri. According to the Department, the Institute of Liver and Billiary Sciences which has a sanction of over Rs.80 crore for various works at its centre has been given a deadline of May-end this year to complete pending work. Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital with a sanctioned cost of Rs.53.32 crore has been asked to finish all hospital improvement and construction work by May next year. J P Hospital (over Rs.40 crore) has been given the deadline of August this year, while G. B. Pant Hospital’s work of the EDP Cell-cum-Referral Block and basement parking has been given till the end of this year to complete all pending work. “Work is in final stage of completion at the Maternity and Child Hospital and has been given time till February end this year. The work at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Delhi Ayurvedic Charak Sansatha is also progressing well,” said a senior health official.
