Court adjourns case against CCB

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday adjourned further hearing on a case in which a resident of Bangalore has challenged forcible occupation of her house by the Bangalore police. The petitioner, Dhanalakshmi Ammal, said that Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials had forcibly evicted nine tenants from her house in Cottonpet and illegally set up an outpost there.

Home Secretary Vatsala Watsa filed an affidavit relating to regulating and monitoring bandhs and strikes. A Division Bench of the High Court had taken the Home Secretary to task for failing to file an affidavit and levied costs of Rs. 10,000 on her. In her affidavit, the Home Secretary has urged the court to waive the cost. The affidavit has been filed after a public interest litigation (PIL) petition was filed seeking a direction to the authorities to initiate steps to control and regulate bandhs, strikes and processions.

Justice Jawed Rahim adjourned to next week a petition by a widow seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of her husband who was a Bahajun Samaj Party (BSP) worker. The petitioner, Roopli Bai, alleged that former Minister and Congress leader D.K. Shiva Kumar was involved in the murder of her husband. She said the Kanakapura police had not investigated the case properly and that the real culprits were not named in the FIR.
