Law school admission procedures simplified

This year, a common entrance will be held for
all the National Law Schools
CLAT-2008 application forms are available
for Rs. 2,000

BANGALORE: National Law School aspirants from all over the country will find that their admission procedure just got simpler. From this year onwards, students will have to write a Common Law Admission Test (CLAT-2008) for admission into the seven prestigious law schools in India. The two-hour entrance examination is scheduled to be held on May 11. The applications can be downloaded from the website www.clat.ac.in and will also be available at all National Law Schools, branches of the State Bank of India and Corporation Bank.

Until last year, the law schools were conducting separate entrances for each law institute, each of which followed its own regulations. This year, a common entrance will be held for all the National Law Schools located in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Raipur and Gandhinagar. Apart from these national-level law colleges, three other law colleges in Patna, Lucknow and Patiala will also use the CLAT score for admission. CLAT-2008 is being organised by National Law School of India University and will be conducted on a seniority-wise rotation basis from this year onwards. Until last year, students had to not only sit for separate entrance tests but also had to pay Rs. 1,000 for each exam.

However, CLAT-2008 application forms are available for Rs. 2,000, which will considerably reduce the financial burden on students, says Jaya Govind, Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU, Bangalore.
