JAIPUR: The Rajasthan State Commission for Minorities has written to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention in rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, who are a minority in the Kashmir Valley. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has remained a “passive spectator” to the plight of displaced Pandits , it said. Commission Chairman Jasbir Singh in his letter to Prime Minister said the Kashmiri Pandits, victims of terrorism and militancy engineered by Pakistan, were living “at the mercy of God”. The efforts made by the Government of India in maintaining peace across the border during the current turbulence in Pakistan were laudable but the Centre should not remain a mute witness to the loss of pluralistic multi-ethnic identity of the Valley, he said. “Kashmiri Pandits are the inhabitants of Kashmir right since its inception. To deprive them of their legal, social and constitutional rights in secular times is wholly inhuman,” said Mr. Singh seeking immediate steps for rehabilitation of the displaced Kashmiris of the Valley.
