Demand for dismissal of Puducherry Ministry

Special Correspondent

People’s needs neglected, says Karaikal Struggle Group

KARAIKAL: The Karaikal Struggle Group has demanded the dismissal of the Puducherry Ministry because of the reported power struggle between Chief Minister and the rest of his Cabinet colleagues.

Lawyer S.P. Selvashanmugam, who is convener of the Group — which is fighting for separate union territory status for Karaikal — told The Hindu on Friday that he had sent letters to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Puducherry Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi stating that the Puducherry government did not take cognisance of the welfare of the people of Karaikal and had failed to carry out development projects.

The Group sent several representations to the Centre and also observed fast demanding separate union territory status for the region. The urgent needs of the people of the region were neglected by the government, he said.
