dated February 2, 1958: Dr. Ernest Heinkel dead

Dr. Ernest Heinkel (70), one of the most famous names in German aviation, died in hospital in Stuttgart (West Germany) on January 30. Dr. Heinkel, credited with developing the world’s first jet aircraft and first aircraft catapult, founded his firm after the First World War and saw it grow in the second war into Hitler’s biggest producer of war planes.
