Anilkumar, Suresh shine

KOCHI: V. Suresh’s unbeaten century and medium-pacer Anilkumar’s five-wicket haul helped State Bank of Travancore (Thiruvananthapuram) crush Chennai’s Indian Bank by 10 wickets in the 21st BPCL Kochi Refinery all-India cricket tournament at Ambalamugal on Friday.

The victory helped SBT top the three-team Pool ‘A’ and march into the quarterfinals.

Prasanth shines

Chennai’s Indian Overseas Bank, thriving on Kerala fast bowler Prasanth Parameswaran’s four-wicket bag, also made the last eight grade from Pool ‘B’ after defeating Mumbai’s BPCL, while Bangalore’s Vijaya Bank and Chennai’s India Cements came up with comfortable wins in the other league matches.

The scores: Vijaya Bank (Bangalore) 134 in 30 overs bt SBH (Hyderabad) 114 in 25.2 overs (B. Sumanth 35, Raghavendra four for 24).

BPCL (Mumbai) 149 for eight in 30 overs (Bhavin Thakkar 35, Prasanth Parameswaran four for 35) lost to IOB (Chennai) 151 for eight in 29.4 overs.

Indian Bank (Chennai) 171 in 29.2 overs (Surya Prakash 63, Anilkumar five for 41) lost to SBT (Thiruvananthapuram) 173 for no loss in 16.3 overs (V. Suresh 101 n.o., M.P. Sorab 54 n.o.).

India Cements (Chennai) 204 in 28.5 overs (S. Thalaivan 54, Sreekumar Nair 44) bt Cordiant Sports Foundation (Ernakulam) 153 in 28.4 overs (S. Suresh four for 24).

Cosmos in last eight

Two goals in a nine-minute spell helped Cosmos Club (Kottayam) blank Thrissur’s Gymkhana Club 2-0 and enter the quarterfinals of the 32nd Kerala State inter-club football championship at the Public Stadium at Thiruvalla on Friday.

Joby Philip opened the scoring in the 42nd minute while V. Sujith increased the margin in the 51st minute.

St. Berchmans wins

Host St. Berchmans College defeated Thiruvananthapuram’s Mar Ivanios 71-48 to retain the Fr. P.C. Mathew memorial inter-collegiate basketball title at Changanassery on Friday.

The result (final): St. Berchmans College (Changanassery) 71 (E.S. Deepumon 27, Bobin Mathew 16, P.S. Subin 11) bt Mar Ivanios (Tvm) 48.

Pavoo memorial cricket

The 21st E.P. Pavoo memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament, organised by Challengers CC, begins at the St. Thomas College ground, Thrissur, on Saturday.
