VISAKHAPATNAM: More players than last year have registered for the Rs. 3 lakhs prize money third CMR-AISTA all-India veterans ranking tennis tournament to be held here from February 4 to 9. While 225 players participated last year, more than 300 from different parts of the country have already registered their names, director of the tournament and Vice-Chairman of the Visakhapatnam UDA G. Venkatram Reddy said here on Friday. The competitions will be held in singles and doubles in the plus 45, plus 55 and plus 65 years age groups. The juniors tournament for under-16, 14, 12 and 10, being held simultaneously attracted 250 boys and girls. While the Officers’ Club is the main venue, matches will also be held at the Waltair Club and Century Club while the juniors’ events will be held at the Andhra University Tennis Complex. Mavuri Venkata Ramana, MD of CMR Shopping Mall is the chief patron of the tournament. The signing in has commenced and the qualifying rounds will be held from Saturday. Signing in for the main draw is on Feb. 3, according to chief referee Y. Brahma Reddy. The 32-player draw will have 20 selected as per their National ranking, eight qualifiers and four wild cards. — Special Correspondent
