Uproar over Vangaveeti Radha’s statue proposal

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The meeting of the general body of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Friday witnessed chaos and verbal duel over a proposal to erect the statue of Vangaveeti Radha, elder brother of former MLA Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, on National Highway-5. The ruling Congress moved a resolution proposing the installation of the late Radha’s statue near Krishnalanka Fire Station after obtaining the required clearances from all the agencies concerned.

However, CPI floor leader P. Gowtham Reddy and others vehemently opposed it on the grounds that Radha had done neither any social service nor was he an MLA or a corporator.

Congress floor leader Kunuku Rajasekhar, who was surprisingly supported by his TDP counterpart Yerubothu Ramana, defended the proposal saying Radha was a motivator and guided many political leaders, including MLAs and corproators.
