Mysterious blasts fox Delhi again

Staff Reporter

Four vehicles damaged; police launch hunt for miscreants

NEW DELHI: Four vehicles were damaged in mysterious explosions on Aurobindo Marg in South Delhi late on Thursday night. No one was injured in the twin blasts.

The explosions took place one after the other, first at a T-point near the Police Training College (PTC) and the other near the Lado Sarai T-point on Aurohbindo Marg, around 11 p.m. A Toyota Corolla crossing the PTC traffic junction was riddled with one-inch-long nails.

Shortly afterwards, another blast took place near the Lado Sarai T-point, damaging three more vehicles -- a Maruti Wagon-R, a Tata Indica and a Chevrolet Tavera.

The windscreens, windows and bodies of the vehicles were damaged. The shocked occupants called up the police.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the crude bombs were probably packed with iron shrapnel.

A similar blast was reported at the Lado Sarai T-point in July 2005 when at least three vehicles were damaged. In that case again, the same type of crude bomb had been used.

A fortnight ago, another mysterious blast took place near IIT Delhi. Shiv Nath, an employee with a mobile phone service provider company who was on his way to Adhchini Gaon on a motorcycle, was injured. The police now suspect that concrete was used as shrapnel in that blast.

Suspecting involvement of the same people behind the mysterious explosions, the police have launched a hunt for the miscreants. The local police are being assisted by the Special Cell in the investigations.

“We are awaiting the forensic report on the materials used in the blasts,” said a police officer.
